Bridge Connections: Both Over and Between

Everyone knows that bicycles are much more nimble and practical vehicles for getting around town, don’t they? Well I’ll tell you that when a Willamette River bridge goes up, it’s a great thing to be on bicycle.

As a bicyclist it was easy to change route and ride down the East-bank Esplanade to the Hawthorne Bridge. I enjoyed a wonderful later afternoon junket with a surprise sunburst and some time to think.

I began pondering the importance of an interconnected bridge network. It is essential for bicyclists to not only have access to every bridge crossing every river (in the world) but also to have a route to connect them together. These connections create in important distribution system by which cyclists can ride down to the river then easily access every bridge to reach different parts of towns.

In our work developing the Blueprint for Better Bicycling we heard these same issues from our members. I am here to tell you that the BTA will continue to prioritize bridge crossing and connectivity issues.

Enjoy your river ride today.
