Oregon’s Future: Imagine It. Smell It. Shape It.

Next Thursday, join the BTA at a town hall forum for Envision Oregon, a collaborative project of 1000 Friends of Oregon and many other organizations for citizens to help plan and shape Oregon’s future.

Envision Oregon logo Oregon faces some daunting challenges. Our population is expected to increase by two million more people in the next 30 years. Where and how do we want to grow as a state? What do we want the Oregon of the future to look like? What role should Oregon’s land use program play in getting us there?

The Portland forum will be on August 3 from 5:30-8:45 p.m at the Governor Hotel and is free and open to the public. The Governor Hotel is located at 614 SW 11th. Registration and additional information are available online at www.EnvisionOregon.org.

To date, almost 300 citizens have pre-registered for the event. The forum is co-sponsored by Active Living by Design, Audubon Society of Portland, Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Bus Project, City Club of Portland, Coalition for a Livable Future, Community Development Network, Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland, Housing Alliance, League of Women Voters of Oregon, The Neighborhood Partnership Fund, Oregon Action, Oregon Business Association, Portland Business Alliance, SOLV, visionPDX and 1000 Friends of Oregon.

The Portland town hall is the third in a series of Envision Oregon forums around the state. Additional forums will be held in the fall in Albany, Bend, La Grande and Medford. A summary of each forum will be forwarded to the Oregon (“Big Look) Task Force on Land Use Planning created by the 2005 legislature.

Listen to Bob Stacey, 1000 Friends’ executive director, discuss Envision Oregon.
