Bicycle Boulevard Survey is the feel-good hit of the Summer!

Survey imageThe BTA Bicycle Boulevard Survey was launched a week ago and to our surprise has already had over 700 responses! That’s over 100 responses a day. A big Thank You to all who took the time to fill this survey out and I encourage anyone that has not to please do so, it only takes a few minutes. The information and insight we gain from the survey will go along way toward our goal of creating a safe, efficient and aesthetically pleasing network of Bicycle Boulevards that will link communities and neighbors to work and play in the Portland metro area and southwest Washington.

Some of the initial trends we’ve noticed are that about 2/3 of the respondents are not BTA members, this is great because we really wanted to reach out beyond our constituency with this survey and have a representation of the community at large. That said, we would also like to hear from non-cyclists. We made some effort to contact non-cyclists and the community in general through web boards like CNRG and News4Neighbors and we contacted some local CDC’s because Bicycle Boulevards are a community multiplier, meaning that with a network of boulevards that are low-traffic, quiet, green, slow, and playable streets we have children and parents that feel safer being outside for recreation and commuting, not just by bicycle but on foot as well. The boulevards can connect children to schools more easily and safely as well as their parents to work and shopping. So the more input we have the better we will be able to provide you all with an effective network of Bicycle Boulevards. Please keep sending your comments as well, it’s always nice to have a dialogue attached with a project like this.

A number of you have requested to be kept up to date on the future of the Bicycle Boulevard Campaign and we thank you for your continued interest and look forward to working with you and meeting you personally when we take this project to the communities it will be serving. Thank you again and we’ll see you soon.
