Sewing party stitches 26 bags!

Seamstress & SeamsterA big THANKS goes out to the folks who helped construct nylon drawstring bags in the BTA office last night. The bags will be used to transport 100′s of helmets between schools that participate in BTA’s Bicycle Safety Education program. For the past 8 years of the program, we’ve been using plastic garbage bags. The garbage bags rip quickly and end up in the trash; we’ve been wanting some nice helmet carrying bags for a long time.
BTA office turned into a sewing studio
The five of us managed to complete 26 bags in one evening. It’s a great start towards our ideal quantity of 50 bags. We had a fun time sewing, burning the edges of the fabric to prevent unravelling and getting tangled up in the nylon threads that resulted from ripping the material.

If you were not able to make it to the sewing party but would still like to lend a hand, contact Anna Scalera to get set up with a ‘kit’ of material that you can sew into bags at home.
