Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) became the Bike Commuter Benefits Act tenth co-sponsor last week. There are now six Democrats and four Republicans backing the bill, including Sen. Enzi (R) from Wyoming.

According to the Census, between 2000 and 2005, the number of Portland residents who say they bike to work rose from 1.5 to 3.5% — an increase of 133%!

A random quick note: in today’s Washington Post, Sen. George Allen (from Virginia) is accused of being a bike thief while in high school. Hopefully bike theives everywhere will get the message: if you steal, it’ll catch up to you, even if you’re a Senator.
