Escape to Nantucket Island’s Beauty, Bike Paths

WharfGrowing up I had the luck of traveling to Nantucket Island (off of Cape Cod, MA) most summers. The island is magical — removed from the everyday stresses of the world, full of cranberry bogs, lighthouses, beaches, and old houses. It’s also covered with bike paths, and people biking to and from beaches and the various towns.

lighthouseIf you want to spend a week in Nantucket this year (in September), walk along the bluffs, enjoy the grey-shingled houses, the flour mill, the whaling museum, the bogs and the fishing, come bid on a week’s stay at Alice. The house accommodates 10, so it’s perfect for a getaway with friends or family, or a romantic getaway for two.
The description:

Nantucket townNantucket Island is one of the most historic and visually stunning places in the world. Originally a the world’s busiest whaling port, the City of Nantucket has been named a National Historic District. Little has changed architecturally since the 17th century, as seaside cottages and old-fashioned lamps still line its streets.

Accommodations include a 5-bedroom, 2-bath house that sleeps 10 in rural Polpis; large deck, an outdoor shower, and horseshoe pit; an easy bike ride to Quidnet Beach or Sankanty Head lighthouse; a collection of old 3-speed bicycles—perfect for the 28 miles of bike paths through the island’s rolling terrain. Invite your friends and plan a late-summer getaway while the water is warm and the crowds are down.
