SK Northwest is Baaaaaack….

SK Northwest has submitted a new development application for the Portland Spirit property along the Springwater on the Willamette.

Portland’s Bureau of Development Services will be accepting public testimony between now and March 22. Testimony should focus on whether the development proposal meets the legal requirements of such development, including the potential demand for a multiuse trail that is required to be included under Portland code, but is not part of the application.

Read more background about the past application, which the City denied.

Read more background of this application (LU 06-171821 GW).

The BTA will be active in opposing the application.

Ironically, the same day we received notice of the new application, the application for the Portland Boat House/City Storage which would be next door to this property arrived. There the owners see the path as an amenity and are planning on building a larger path than required.

This is in our neighborhood, and we’ll be taking up both these Greenway reviews at our next Hosford-Abernethy Neighborhood Association (HAND) meeting. HAND opposed the previous application because of the failure of the proposal to provide the path.

We’re inviting Shawn of SK Northwest to discuss the proposal, and everyone’s invited, especially if you live in the HAND neighborhood. That’s the third Tuesday of March, starting at 6:30pm at the Philip Neri church annex at 18th & Division.

Thanks, I am happy there are knowledgable and interested people working on this. I appreciate getting the information. As an avid bicyclist, I support the on-going development of our system of bike and pedestrian routes.

So, Frank: Do I understand correctly that Shawn of SK Northwest will be at the HAND meeting THURSDAY, MARCH 15th at 6:30pm at the Philip Neri church annex at 18th & Division?

Shawn was invited and was originally going to come but turns out he’ll be out of town. We’ve extended an invitation for him to send someone else, but it didn’t sound like he’d be doing that. We will nonetheless be discussing how to respond to the proposal, which has to be submitted before the next meeting.

Update: The comment period has closed and a planner is reviewing the application. No word yet on whether it will be accepted or denied. Either way it can still be appealed.
