Bike Master Plan Rides
PDOT is updating its Bicycle Master Plan and Roger Geller, PDOT’s Bike Man, is leading rides the 1st Tuesday of the month to various quadrants of the city. The rides focus on the good, bad, and ugly that exists within Portland’s extensive bike routes. Ride for about 2 hours at an easy pace – can’t see what’s wrong if it’s a blur – followed by about an hour of discussion and feedback. Portland! The city that listens!
Bike Master Plan Rides meet at about 5pm at Terry Schrunk Plaza (SW 3rd & SW Madison) 1st Tuesdays, leave at 5:15pm. Come check it out, yo!
Springwater Corridor – SK Northwest Lawsuit
The insanity continues…after the City of Portland decided last month against the developers at SK Northwest who want to open a jet-ski repair shop on property currently owned by the Portland Spirit. SK wants to develop the land and not provide right-of-way for the completion of the trail. The City Hearings Officer ruled against the proposed development.
If you’ve ever biked to Oaks Park or even just to some of the nice grassy areas found along the Springwater, you know the chaos that exists in the industrial area south of OMSI. Portland Spirit owns property along the Willamette that could provide for safe passage of bikers and pedestrians enjoying the quietude provided by the trail along river.
Of course, SK Northwest has appealed to Oregon’s Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) and that body has a bit over 2 months to decide the case. No new evidence or commentary can be submitted at this time so lets just hope LUBA upholds the spirit of the laws that created it and provides for the extension of the trail.

I-205 Corridor Bike Path Detour
Construction that has begun on the extension of the MAX from Gateway Town Center to Clackamas has caused some disruptions in the bike route following I-205.

Milwaukie Transportation System Plan
Milwaukie is including Bicycle Boulevards in their updated TSP! Woot! Woot!
North Portland Greenway Plan
This is probably the best idea someone has had in a long time. But, acquiring the land is very expensive. And Swan Island is frightening. The group heading this up is dealing with the 26-80 bond measure funding.
check their website for more information
The proposed trail would go from the Steel Bridge north to the St. John’s Bridge, connecting far North Portland with the Eastside Esplanade. See? Best idea ever.
Sullivan’s Gulch Trail
Seems like a good idea and the Oregonian supports it.

Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc. Bicycle Boulevards
SWNI forges ahead on their own to identify streets appropriate for Bike Boulevards! Yay!
Give them a shout out of support! Biking in the southwest is currently frightening…looks like another excellent idea!
