Newsflash! New Bike Rack at City Hall!

For all you frequent visitors to Portland’s City Hall, you can now enjoy parking your bike at an executive level bike rack—newly installed this week. Holding nearly a dozen bikes, the bike rack is a welcomed addition to City Hall’s 4th Street entrance. Tom Miller from Commissioner Sam Adam’s office realizes that “we have increasing demand for bike parking”.

city-bike-parking.JPGCitywide bike parking has been “a long standing issue” states Miller, “There is so much press on the Portland community being [bike] friendly. It is creating its own momentum.”

The new bike rack comes just in time for the BTA’s Bike Commute Challenge. Miller says he sees the Challenge, which started yesterday, as “the single most visible thing the BTA does.” As palatable the month of September is for bike commuting, the new rack addition and the Bike Commute Challenge are sure to be a hit!

Want a mayor-worthy bike rack in front of your business? Contact the City of Portland’s Transportation Options office by calling 503-823-5185 to request a rack.

That’s good…It’s been sort of a pain in the butt to visit City Hall by bike since they stopped letting you enter on the 5th Ave entrance.

At last night’s BAC meeting it was reported that this rack will only be there during September for the challenge and will then go away.

    Surely we can change that!

ONLY FOR THE CHALLENGE??? No way!!!

I hear the Portland Building, next door, is having a bike parking crisis of epic proportions.
