Safe Routes to School National Partnership releases 2007 State of the States Report

The BTA is a leader in the national Safe Routes movement, and part of my role as the statewide director for Safe Routes is to serve on the Advisory Committee for the National Partnership. Today the Partnership released its 2007 State of the States Report which shows growing success in all states around the country.
Oregon is highlighted as a leader because of our bike safety education program which has taught over 30,000 students in Oregon since it began in 1998. Additionally, our leadership role on the Walk + Bike to School Day Advisory Committee for the statewide encouragement program is also recognized.
The release of the report coincides with this Wednesday’s Walk and Bike to School Day, as well as today’s press conference with Congressman Oberstar on Capitol Hill and tomorrow’s testimony by Scott Bricker from the BTA and Deb Hubsmith from the National Partnership before Chairman DeFazio and the Congressional Highways and Transit Subcommittee.
