Metro moves Connecting Green Forward

Metro’s President David Bragdon held a special meeting of the Metro Regional Trails Working Group yesterday to move forward his vision of Connecting Green.david-bragdon-connecting-green-mike-houck-urban-greenspaces-institute.jpg

Connecting Green is a bold vision for a regionwide network of parks, natural areas and trails. Yesterday we talked about the regional trails element. Metro has identified the “Great 8″ regional trails that would be the priority backbone of the system. Other trails were identified by stakeholders from around the region.

Metro is moving this process forward quickly and plans to form a Blue Ribbon committee that would help drive a fund raising effort to help build this robust network. The BTA is advocating that Metro purchases all of the needed right-of-way with their Natural Area Bond Measure funds. We will partner with Metro, local jurisdictions, and other advocates to try and find other sources of funding for the construction of these key trail links.
