Holiday gifts for your beloved bicyclist

Wondering what gifts to get all your loved ones this year? It’s easy to take care of the bicyclists on your list! Here are some suggestions from around the BTA office:

Stocking Stuffers:

A head band or slim hat (to fit under their helmet)
Gift certificate for a bike tune up from a bike shop
A BTA membership (gets them 10% discounts on bike stuff all year)
A pair of warm SmartWool socks
A waterproof helmet cover
New colorful handlebar tape
A brass bell (it really does sound better), about $8, most bike shops or online

Wrapped and Under the Tree:

Silk long underwear (try WinterSilks)
Warm biking gloves
A battery charger and rechargeable batteries (for blinky lights)
Christmas lights with a battery pack to wrap around their bike frame
Waterproof panniers
Locally made bikey accessories at CraftyWonderland this Sunday (maybe some like these)
An iRide stereo system for cruisin’ with some tunes in style (and safety)

Too Big to Wrap, Have to Hide it Somewhere:

Beautiful full wood fenders made by Dave Guettler of RiverCity Bicycles (these are SUCH a luxurious addition to a nice bike!)
A Dutch-style cruiser bike – an Electra Amsterdam; a Jorg&Olif Scout; or even a Bakfiets from CleverCycles.

Update on Full Wood fenders: Dave Guettler, owner of River City Bicycles, is selling the fender business to long-time employee Chris McMurtrey. Chris has worked as a bike mechanic at RCB for many years and also learned the craft of hand-building wood fenders from Dave. Now the wood fenders are being produced in Chris’s garage at his home in Milwaukie, Ore.

Dave & RCB still get a guaranteed supply of locally made Full Wood fenders to sell at retail; the difference is now Chris (who was doing most of the work anyway, after his apprenticeship with Dave) gets to take ownership of the fender biz!

Congratulations, Chris! Good luck and best wishes.
