Memorial ride for killed teen bicyclist

The BTA is closely following the tragic story of the boy killed in Beaverton. We will update our blog as details become available. However, we are withholding commentary until the investigation is complete. This is a horrible incident and our condolences go out to all those involved.

This evening there will be a memorial gathering for Austin Miller, a student at Beaverton’s Arts and Communications Academy who died yesterday evening in a crash with a TriMet bus. The Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition, led by Hal Ballard, is organizing this gathering and will erect a ghost bike at the location of the crash.

Assemble at 5:00 pm at SW Farmington and Murray in Beaverton. A ride or service will start at 5:30 pm.

For info contact Hal at 503-984-1761.

From a reliable source. It appears that Austin made a right turn thru a red light and ran into the side of the bus. I can appreciate having a memorial at the scene of the accident but it seems like teaching bicycle safety at his school could be incredibly effective following this tragedy. My condolences to the friends and family of this young man.
