The 4th and 5th graders in Atkinson Elementary’s after-school Pedal Power program were taking a much deserved break. They’d ridden all the way from their school at 57th and Division to the middle of Ladd’s circle. Z-Bars were distributed, water slurped, and wounds treated (one of our students gave us a crash course in grabbing the front brake on a steep hill).
As we walked across the grass towards our bikes, Sienna, with her eyes wide, whispered, “And now let us ride our beautiful horses…”
Andrew overheard and disagreed.
“They’re more like anteaters…beautiful anteaters.”
