Bike-race curious?

Bike racing in Oregon is booming. Portland is home to the largest Cyclocross race series on the planet and our state features the highest number of bike racers per capita in the United States. Fortunately, many bike racers consider themselves bike activists, too, and strongly support the advocacy work of the BTA. As Kris Schamp, who organizes the popular Portland Mountain Bike Short Track Series, puts it:

“We all love racing our bikes, but we also need accessible and safe places to ride and train, both on the streets and on the trails. So it is really a no-brainer that we bike racers support the one local organization that is relentlessly working on defending cyclists’ rights, improving our safety by demanding more and better bicycle infrastructure, and continuously advocating for cyclists’ access to public roads and trails.”

To encourage racers to join in the BTA’s advocacy efforts, Kris has started offering a $10 race fee discount to any racer who signs up as a new BTA member. The BTA is really grateful for this support and we’re looking forward to working with others in the race community to further our efforts to open more minds and roads (paved or dirt!) to bicycling.

And if you’ve never watched a bike race, you don’t know how much fun you’re missing out on! Join us at PIR on June 23rd to take in the Mountain Bike Short Track Series. For race details, visit portlandracing.com.
