To hell with the pessimistic pooh-poohs out there! Down with negative ninnys! And no more name calling for pete’s sake!
Right now it’s very important that we really focus on the fact that all road users are people with loved ones who want them to make it home safely each night. Our kids, especially, need to be protected but also reminded that they are part of a larger community that loves them. We want to show we’re all willing to work together to fill kids’ lives with valuable experiences, and one of those is having fun on a bike!
Kidical Mass Part 2 will be held this Friday the 18th. We’ll start from the BTA office at 233 NW 5th Avenue (Note the change in start location. I originally posted a start at the North Park Blocks playground.) We’ll wind through downtown (staying away from tracks this time) and end up, once again, at Ben & Jerry’s who is giving a free treat to the first 100 riders who buy a cone. Meet at 6pm for bike decorations, safety reminders and chit chat; we’ll leave at 6:30, arrive at Ben & Jerry’s by 7:15.
Also, it’s a decorating pot luck! The goal: make your bike, trailer, bakfiets, whatever, as silly and colorful as you can. We’re feeling particularly compelled to make this ride a fun, safe, visible ride…with special emphasis on fun, safe and visible. We’ll bring some decorating items, but please feel free to bring your own, too.
Plus, we challenge each of you to bring with you another family. We want to double our ride numbers so we can really get some momentum behind the idea that kids are traffic too!
Finally, if you do not have kids I would really appreciate you coming to our ride to help out anyway. Since the goal is to increase our numbers but also be super safe, and since we want to make sure that we all give folks nothing but a smiles and friendliness, it would be helpful to have assistance throughout the ride.

One final note, we’re planning on holding Kidical Mass in conjunction with Eugene Kidical Mass (the one and only original) on the third Friday of each month. Look for more info as we get more organized.
Bike safe, have fun and go give a kid a big fat hug!
There’s a beer festival in the North Park Blocks on Friday. I hope your event won’t be in the middle of the beer drinking crowd.
How was the ride? Wished we could have made it…
dang, how did i miss this! i just saw a flyer at bta today! maybe next time.
There’s a blurb on KPTV’s website about it:
