Uncanny. I just got back from my first time taking the Springwater trail east of 205. I ended up taking it all the way to Boring. I would almost have to say that the unpaved part is overall smoother than some of the paved sections.

    Oh also:

“A section of the Springwater Trail in Gresham from 174th to 190th avenues will be closed for construction from Tuesday, July 15 to Sept. 30, 2008. The City of Gresham is installing a sewer pipe under the trail. There will be a trail detour around the work zone. Detour signs will direct trail users along the detour route before reconnecting onto the Springwater Trail.

For more information, contact construction project manager Jim Montgomery at the City of Gresham, 503-618-2437.”

The detour is the bike lane on Powell.

Yes, yes, please pave, improve this stretch of the Springwater. I tried to ride it last night and it was a bit of a nightmare, definitely not smoother than the rest of Springwater and going on Telford rode was pretty scary with lots of fast cars that I would prefer to avoid.
    This would be so wonderful.
I wish it could be extended all the way to Sandy…

    Thanks for doing this.
    Avid bicyclist.

Hooray! I often ride from Gresham Park on the Sringwater,
but am frustrated by the, only, 3.3 mile paved section toward Boring. I once could ride on the road, but am too old now.

It would make a significant addition to the pleasure of this great trail. If only the Portland section East of 47th could be repaved to eliminate the jarring bumps!

I live near the Hogan Trailhead and often bike the whole Springwater Trail, both east and west. The more rural parts, with fewer intersections, are the most pleasurable in my opinion. The section from Rugg Road to Boring is very scenic and rural. Paving it would make it accessible to those of us with road bikes.

Go for it! Soon the entire route from OMSI to Boring will be bike-able.

The pavement needs resurfacing. The surface in anumber of places is deteriorating each season. The ride is quite rough with tires inflated to regular raod bike pressures.

Paving the Trail to Boring would be a great addition. I ride the Trail east from Gresham many times each year with several others and this would extend our range SAFELY.

I also agree with others that the older parts of the Trail need resurfacing. I now avoid them.

It would be wonderful to have the section of the Springwater Trail paved further east….someday I hope it’ll go all the way to Sandy! So much safer for cyclists not to share narrow country roads with cars in a hurry. The Gresham part of the trail is very nice, but the older part of the trail is really rough….miserable on a road bike. I’m guessing it wasn’t properly paved in the beginning… maybe a low bid contractor? Since the Portland metro area is hoping for many more off street bike trails, let’s also not forget how important quality is in the long run!
