Meet Jed Lazar. He and his business partner, Shauna Lambert, are delivering homemade soup all over Portland by bike under the name Soupcycle. I met Jed through a common friend (and sustainablejewishfoodblogger) when I had just arrived in Portland and he let me sleep on the couch on his porch. I only say that to illustrate what a nice guy he is (and to plug Leah’s awesome blog) but the picture above tells that story quite well.
Anyway, Jed brought me a soup sample yesterday and he didn’t stop there. He brought samples for the BTA as well: A fishy soup (“Sole Satisfying”), a vegetarian soup (Roasted Red Pepper), and a vegan soup (“French Farmhouse”)! So far, the French Farmhouse sample has mysteriously disappeared (Lily?) and the others are still undergoing review. Please chime in with your reviews, folks.
I’m already a fan and I’m strongly considering a “soupscription.” They’ve already had a sweet and informative write-up from The Mercury. Their website won’t answer many of your questions yet, but feel free to email them. (Also look for their great stickers around town: “I’d rather be spooning,” “Make soup not war,” and “Good like pizza–only wetter.”)

Hey Carl! Thanks for the bloggy shoutout and also for helping to spread the word about Jed’s amazing business. I’m just plotzing (yiddish for bursting) with pride.
Hope all is well with you!

As an early adopter of soupcycle soup delivery, I am happy to report that it is both timely and tasty, providing slurpable sustenance well into the week!
Two thumbs up for the Roasted Red Pepper. Yea for Soupcycle!
I heard that the resident vegan at the BTA office enjoyed the delicious French Farmhouse soup (It was abandoned in the fridge!) and is now definitely considering a “soupscription”.
