Delays and/or detours may affect your bike commutes next week if you travel through these areas.
Interstate 5 Delta Park – Victory Boulevard to Lombard Street
In ODOT’s words: A contractor is working on a project to widen I-5 between Victory Boulevard and Lombard Street. The contractor plans to continue pile driving around the Columbia Slough Bridge area and Schmeer Road from Monday, Nov. 3, to Saturday, Nov. 8. Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations on Schmeer Road and the Columbia Boulevard southbound on-ramp will be required for this work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. South of the Columbia Slough, the contractor plans rebar installation, bent pouring and shaft drilling. Motor vehicle and bike traffic should expect short delays through the area when flagging operations are being used for construction activity.
In Todd Boulanger’s words: This impacts the Columbia Slough Trail access to the marsh off of Schmeer Road and bike access along north Denver/ Interstate Ave at Schmeer Road. This is parallel to where the Yellow MAX goes airborne. It is west of the horse track and north of Paul Bunyan.
Interstate 84 – Interstate 205 to Troutdale
In ODOT’s words: A contractor is working on a project to install nine traffic cameras on Interstate 84 between Interstate 205 and Troutdale, and permanent variable message signs on Interstate 205 at Airport Way and Strawberry Lane. The contractor plans to work along the I-84 multi-use path from 201st Avenue to 207th Avenue next week. This work will require the closure of the bike/ped path, with a detour in place.
In my words: The bike/ped path from 201st to 207th along I-84 will be closed next week. Be prepared, the “detour” may be city streets and may be quite out-of-the-way as no nearby streets parallel that path.
