Oregon ranked 4th on list of bike-friendly states

Washington comes in first on the League of American Bicyclists‘ top ten. Click here for the 2009 rankings of all 50 states and their place in 2008.

1. Washington – Silver*
2. Wisconsin – Silver*
3. Maine
4. Oregon
5. Minnesota – Bronze*
6. Iowa
7. Arizona – Bronze*
8. New Hampshire
9. Delaware
10. New Jersey

The League of American Bicyclists re-evaluates these rankings each year, but states can also apply for official Bicycle Friendly recognition (that’s what the asterisk means). States that meet the criteria for recognition will receive platinum, gold, silver or bronze award status for four years. The League staff will work with awardees and those states that do not yet meet the criteria to provide technical assistance and encourage continual improvements. Currently there are no states with Gold or Platinum status.
