Thanks to the BTA volunteers who helped make Tour de Fat 2009 a success!

There’s a lot to love about Tour de Fat. The music, the stage shows, the food, the costumes, and of course the beer – all these elements combined make Tour de Fat one of the most fun bike events of the year. This year the weather was nearly perfect, the parade was huge, and it looked to me like everybody had a great time.

I love the Art Bikes. They are a hoot. But as much fun as they are to ride, I love watching other people ride them even more. They are sheer purposeless delight.

BTA volunteers turned out by the dozens to staff the whole beer process from checking ID to pouring beer. Without that support, Tour de Fat couldn’t happen. I want to thank everyone who helped, including the volunteers who staffed the BTA tent and those who kept an eye on the water station.

Thanks also to the City of Portland Water Bureau for setting up their portable water station. They reminded us all that Bull Run water is better than any bottled water you can buy and doesn’t come in a plastic bottle.

Finally, I want say thanks to the fun loving, bike riding folks from New Belgium Brewing who bring Tour de Fat to Portland each summer.

It was a very good day.

You’re welcome, Scott. As we say here in the cliche’ business, “A good time was had by all.” :-)
