. . . And They’re Off!

The BTA’s 2009 Bike Commute Challenge started yesterday, September 1, and no time was wasted in kicking off the month-long challenge to see who can bike to work more. By 8:45 am, 5,000 miles had been logged on the site. By end of day the number had reached 24,500. We expect this year’s Challenge to be the biggest ever.

The folks at 9Wood, Inc. in Springfield, OR, were happy to report 10 cyclists biking to work with one of their bike commuters coming from more than 20 miles away!

What was the picture like at your workplace yesterday? Is it time to get more employee bike parking?

5000 miles by 8:45 AM? Were all those people taking the bus home or something? Or were they recording the round trip before they actually rode it.

@Dan, my guess is that (like myself) they were logging the ride home before actually riding it. If I’m at work with my bike and my car is at home, it’s a pretty safe bet that I will be riding home.

Please stop calculating and reducing my Commute Rate before I’ve had a chance to ride home and log my round trip commute. People who ride every day should never see a number below 100% on their Trip Log.
