Bicyclists’ Rights in Oregon video series with Ray Thomas

Oregon bicycle and pedestrian attorney Ray Thomas and Bowdoin student Greg Conyers teamed up this summer to produce Bicyclists’ Rights in Oregon, a series of six short videos featuring bicycle law. As they put the finishing touches on those videos, the minds behind Doored Again! have released another lighthearted video with a message: The Bicycle-Car Right Hook.

  • Look forward to the full series coming soon, including these titles:
    Bike Lanes
    Sidewalks
    Oregon’s Passing Law
    Vulnerable User Law
    Citizen Prosecution
    Signaling

And in case you missed it the first time, here’s Doored Again!

Am I missing something? The video makes it look like the main or only legal argument against a right hook is that the driver is not yielding the right of way to a bicycle in a bike lane. So does this mean that if a car driver makes a right hook turn on a street where there is no bike lane that it’s not illegal? That’s a bit frightening, if true.

I wonder whether there isn’t a better statute to cite for why this is an unacceptable action.
