Pear Bureau will donate fresh pears to schools on Walk + Bike Day

Every year, International Walk + Bike to School Day gives schools a chance to emphasize the importance of a healthy, nutritious diet in addition to physical activity. Health authorities, educators and parents are spending increasingly more time working to raise awareness about good nutrition for kids at school and at home. Still, manufacturers of prepackaged snacks have an advantage over most producers of whole foods – a huge marketing budget that allows them to advertise easy, cheap snack solutions to cash-strapped schools and busy parents.

This year is different. Pear Bureau Northwest, the non-profit marketing organization that represents the pear growers of Oregon and Washington, is donating fresh pears to schools who are participating in International Walk + Bike Day. In addition to fresh fruit the Pear Bureau will provide schools with metal pear slicers, coloring sheets, activity books, and small prizes for raffles and giveaways.

Go pears!
