BTA volunteers save time and money on the flip side

We’ve all heard someone say “We’ve been doing it this way for longer than I can remember.”

The BTA’s Volunteer Saturday has that legacy status for many of us: every month we pack the office with a dozen or more volunteers and we stuff envelopes with reminder letters to encourage folks to renew their BTA memberships. We’ll mail out between 500 and 1000 letters a month, depending on how many members need a reminder.

It’s pretty straightforward. We fold. We stuff. We lick. We stamp. We sip coffee. We repeat. We do it every month. We’ve been doing it this way for longer than we can remember.

This month, though, we tried something new. And, as things go, something we think is a pretty smart idea, and we hope you like it. As is pretty common among non-profits, in the past these reminder letters would include both the reminder letter to the member and a separate return slip for the member to send back with their donation. This time, though, we simply printed the remittance form on the back of the letter. It saves us paper and printing costs. It also saves us time in the assembly of the mailing. All we had to do was print on the flip side.

Any bright idea, of course, is only as good as the follow through.  It’s our superstar volunteers who make it all happen. Big thanks for their help goes out to PeterB, John, Dave, Michael, Jenny, Leandra, Kate, John, Ryan, PeterW, Mark, PJ, Loran, Cathy and Dennis! It’s your volunteer energy that keeps the BTA’s wheels spinning!

Want in on the fun next month? Come join us for the next Volunteer Saturday on December 12th from 9:30-11:30. We hope to see you there!
