When Portland released its visionary Bike Plan for 2030 with the goal of creating a world class bike city, the BTA commended the city for its dedication to sustainability and pursuit of innovation in bicycle planning. However, we also cautioned that “even the greatest plan will achieve little without the investments and political will required for implementation.”
Portland will not become a world class bike city without strong backing in the form of political commitments and investment priorities that are echoed in every vision and every plan the city produces. So it’s important, on the heels of the much-applauded Bike Plan for 2030, that we continue to speak up for investments in active transportation priorities.
Attend one of the upcoming Portland Plan Workshops and let the city know we will keep demanding written commitments to funding for active transportation as part of a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous community.
