Before this week, did you know how to prepare for a commute in eighteen degree weather? Portlanders have learned tough (and in some cases, painful) lessons this week about walking and biking in winter conditions. (Hint: double gloves don’t help if they’re not windproof.)
Learn how to avoid these mistakes with your kids at a free All Weather Bike to School Clinic this Thursday and make sure your children can safely and comfortably walk or bike to school all winter long.
All Weather Bike to School Clinic

Rain: the more common Portland winter condition
The workshop, hosted by Portland Safe Routes and REI, will discuss riding in the rain, keeping children warm and dry, and finding time in the morning to prepare for your walk or bike ride. Alameda Elementary parent Janet Schmidt will share her experience on biking with her children every day.
Please RSVP for this panel discussion to Carolina at Carolina.Iraheta@trans.ci.portland.or.us or 503-823-1189. Let her know if you would like childcare, language translation or any other services during the event. The library meeting room is ADA accessible.
Families interested in active transportation can attend more workshop and training opportunities in January and February. Visit www.saferoutesportland.org for more information.
