Take action to protect biking and walking connections in Eugene

Eugene residents: take action to preserve an important bicycle connection between Eugene’s most heavily used bike route and the scenic riverfront bike path.

Ask the city of Eugene to deny the University of Oregon’s request to construct a large research building and parking lot along the Willamette River, and help protect valuable green space and biking and walking access to the waterfront.

The University requested a 3-year extension on their original permit to build when it expired in October 2009 along with the 1989 Master Plan. But a group of students, faculty and residents known as Connecting Green have a larger vision:

We assert that the city of Eugene should deny the extension request and require the University to submit a new master plan that better responds to current thinking about sustainable development and responsible care for our riverfront.

Landscape architecture students have worked with faculty to develop an alternative vision for the Willamette Riverfront. Their proposal fits within the University and city’s development plans for the area while protecting shared environmental, economic, and community interests.
