Help plant 1,500 trees along the I-205 path

Starting this month, volunteers will plant 1,500 trees and 10,000 native plants along the I-205 path as part of a greening project led by Friends of Trees and ODOT. There are five opportunities to help out, with a big kick-off on January 9 at NE Marine Drive at 112th. Come help plant or just learn more about the project.

ODOT has teamed up with non-profit Friends of Trees to green the I-205 Multi-Use Path with trees and shrubs thanks in part to a 3-year grant awarded to Friends of Trees through Metro’s Nature in Neighborhoods grant program. The grant is for $415,000 and will include the planting of 1,500 trees and 10,000 native plants along the 15 miles of the I-205 Multi-Use Path from NE Marine Drive South to Gladstone. This project will be touted as a statewide model for considering the greening of ODOT right-of-way.

Earlier this year, the BTA, TriMet, and ODOT celebrated the new and improved path including new lights funded by $4 million in federal stimulus money.

I’d like to help out with people who are helping move trees with bikes. I know trucks are needed for much of the work. Can the BTA post the information with the move-tress-by-bike coordinator name, email and phone number??? Or just call me, I’m a member and you have my info. Please reply, thanks, j oe

Thanks for the post, Margaux. We’re very excited about Saturday’s planting and this project as a whole. I’ve been covering our side of this story since summer and there is a lot of additional information on the Friends of Trees blog, Growth Rings: http://friendsoftrees.org/blog/
