Feb 25: BTA members will guide discussions in Salem and Portland

All BTA members are encouraged to attend the first of several member forums in 2010 in Portland and Salem on February 25. At these member-guided meetings, BTA staff and board members will discuss the issues that are relevant and important to your community.

Feb 25 – Portland
**NEW location**
Whole Foods Market, Salud Community Room
1210 NW Couch Street
5:30 – 7:30 pm

Feb 25 – Salem
Salem Public Library, Plaza Room
585 Liberty Street SE
5:30 – 7:30 pm

Please RSVP your attendance to Margaux or call 503-226-0676 x28.

At our first forum last year, members discussed how individual cyclists, law enforcement agencies, and BTA advocates can make the roads safer for bicycling. Read the report here.

We also want member input on how the BTA’s organizational priorities for 2010 reflect the priorities and goals for your community, and your ideas for building new partnerships and strengthening our work around the state.

Possible topics for discussion include:

BUILD IT: Support the Portland Bicycle Plan for 2030
Last week, Portland City Council unanimously adopted the Bicycle Plan for 2030 and kickstarted the funding with $20 million for green street features and bike boulevards. But this is just the beginning of our campaign to seek more secure funding and to Build It! Stay tuned for new opportunities to get involved.

Hiring our next Executive Director
We’ve kicked off our search process looking for the next great BTA Executive Director. Know any strong candidates? Link them to the Job Posting on our website.

Statewide Advocacy Focus
We’re making great progress in our statewide advocacy efforts in Washington County, Eugene, Bend, Salem and the Rogue Valley, working with BTA members in those communities to share best practices, build partnerships and get more folks safely on bikes around the state.

Preparing for the 2011 Legislative Session
The legislature will be making critical decisions about transportation and bicycling in 2011. The BTA will present a legislative package, including a vehicular homicide law, to make Oregon safer and more convenient for bicyclists.

Increased member engagement
Whether you’re interested in teaching bike safety education to kids, leading your workplace in the Bike Commute Challenge, providing input on BTA advocacy and legislative strategies, or just meeting and mingling with members, staff, and board, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
