Ride a bike and plant a tree with Friends of Trees on March 6

Volunteer/muscle-building opportunity of the week! On March 6, volunteer bike crews are pulling 40 trees weighing 200 pounds each to Montavilla and Mt Tabor neighborhoods. More details from Friends of Trees below:

On Saturday, March 6, local non-profit Friends of Trees will host a planting in the Montavilla and Mt. Tabor neighborhoods in which volunteers will wheel trees weighing about 200 pounds by bike to the homes where the trees will be planted. Of the 195 trees being added to the two neighborhoods on Saturday, 40 will be planted by bicycling crews.

Friends of Trees Executive Director Scott Fogarty and Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman, who oversees the Bureau of Environmental Services, will welcome the planting volunteers. The planting is part of Portland’s Grey to Green Initiative to plant 83,000 street and yard trees in five years. Since November, Friends of Trees volunteers have planted 2,200 street and yard trees in Portland, with another 800 to be planted by the end of March.

Guest Speaker: Dan Saltzman, Portland City Commissioner who oversees the Bureau of Environmental Services, will speak briefly at 9 a.m.
