What is Kidical Mass?

Kidical Mass is a legal, safe, and FUN bike ride for kids, kids at heart, and their families. From its humble beginnings in Eugene in April 2008 with founders Shane Rhodes and BTA board member Paul Adkins, Kidical Mass has grown and spread to communities nationwide and beyond, as far as Toronto and Hungary.

It’s a celebration with kids, families, and people who like kids and families to get together on kid-sized bikes, adult-sized bikes, family-sized cargo bikes with kids and pets in tow, and just about everything in between. The message: kids are traffic too!

The BTA has led Kidical Mass rides in Portland for nearly two years, spearheaded by BTA Operations Director Angela Koch, who led the first ride in Portland for Pedalpalooza in 2008. While Koch is stepping down from her position in May to focus on other projects, the BTA will continue to lead rides in the future. This summer we’re excited to see the event grow bigger and more awesome than ever.

Want in on the fun? The next ride is Saturday, May 8! It will begin with a family commute workshop by the BTA and end at the Portland Farmer’s Market at PSU.

Rides leaves at 10 am from the “Big Pink” US Bancorp plaza in downtown Portland. (This will be the meeting place for all rides this summer.) See Google Map.

Full summer calendar of rides coming soon to the Kidical Mass website.
