PBOT, local businesses announce deals to celebrate Stark & Oak improvements

As many people are aware, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is working to improve facilities along SW Stark and Oak Street through downtown.

The buffered bike lane on each street is being painted bright green all the way from SW Naito to SW 11th Avenue and as part of the project local businesses are offering discounts to people who walk and bike!

Coupons being distributed by PBOT include deals and discounts at Al-Amir, Portland Chiropractic, Mother’s Bistro & Bar, Karam, Balanced Heart Acupuncture, Thai Peacock, Reading Frenzy, Cameron’s Books and Magazines, and the Fish Grotto.

The partnership with local businesses for this promotion is a natural one. There are plenty of world-wide examples of increased economic activity in areas with safe infrastructure for bicycle traffic.

BikePortland’s first-hand look at SW Stark and Oak indicates the new green lanes are already having their intended effect: providing both people driving and bicycling with an intuitive separation of traffic and making it safer for people to visit local destinations on a bike.

To get the coupons for yourself, download them from PBOT or get a PDF copy here. You can contact Scott Cohen for more information or to have the coupons sent to you directly.
