On March 20th, the Oregon Transportation Commission approved ten projects totaling $8.56 million to be funded through a combination of federal and state funds known as the Transportation Alternatives and Oregon Pedestrian & Bicycle Program Funding Awards.
The N. Williams Ave Traffic Operations and Safety Project is the only project from the Portland metro region on the list. The funding will be available on July 1st of this year. According to the PBOT project manager, Rich Newlands, the engineering and design should be complete in early 2014 and construction should begin in the spring of 2014.
The BTA is elated to see this project receive funding from the very competitive ODOT program. We believe the impressive level of community engagement around this project was critical in its funding award.
We thank members of the stakeholder advisory committee, PBOT project staff, the joint Transportation Enhancements/Oregon Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, and the Oregon Transportation Commission for all their hard work getting this project one major step closer to reality.
