Okay, the gentleman who sent in today’s Bike Commute Challenge Photo of the Day needs little introduction around these parts. Oregon’s Third District Federal Congressman Earl Blumenauer sent in this photo of himself with his trusty Trek Portland bicycle on the steps of the Capitol in Washington, DC. Congressman Blumenauer’s accomplishments include serving as a Portland City Councilor, establishing the bi(ke)-partisan Congressional Bike Caucus (which has swelled to over 160 members of Congress), and recently holding a “Tour de Bike Shops” in Northeast and Southeast Portland. Thanks to Congressman Blumenauer, your employer can offer up to $20 a month in employment benefits for riding your bike to work; has your office taken advantage of the Bicycle Commuter Act? It’s just one of a myriad of ways in which businesses can provide an incentive for employees to try riding their bike to work.
Thanks for the photo, Congressman! It’s great to see our elected officials committed to the Bike Commute Challenge, and it’s a wonderful reminder that being out of town for a business trip doesn’t mean that you can’t make an effort to #bikemore throughout the month of September.
