Local mountain bike rider and graphic designer Mat Barton suffered a serious spinal cord injury after falling off his bike head first at a short track mountain bike race on June 11. Mat underwent a successful surgery to repair the injured vertebrae on his spine, but doctors believe he is likely paralyzed permanently from the chest down.
To support Mat and help cover medical costs, family and friends are hosting a Matt Barton Recovery Fund event at Madison’s Grill. The gathering there will be a silent auction to raise funds for Mat with lots of great items. You can purchase raffle tickets for a Focus Chrono 1.0 TT bike worth $7,550. Tickets will be sold for $10 and the drawing will be held in September (exact date and time TBD) at the Lumberyard Bike Park.
Beer from Hopworks will be available for sale (portion of proceeds going to Mat) and light snacks provided by Madison’s Grill.
