On Monday the BTA’s own lobbyist, Jonathan Manton, was the special guest for a Q+A session at the monthly First Monday Happy Hour at Velo Cult. Although the sun was shining, a handful of interested community members turned up to hear about what issues and legislation Jonathan has been working on lately in the state capitol. He shared that his attention has primarily been focused on increasing safety and expanding paths and trails, and spoke about three particular issues that have been of concern this past session:
- a bill that would allow cities to easily lower the residential speed limit to 20mph
- unmanned radar cameras to crack down on speeding drivers
- expanding the ConnectOregon program to include funding for bike paths/trails, sidewalks, etc.
In attendance were a number of active community members, including a BTA committee member, a citizen activist and former Portland City Council candidate, a Pedalpalooza organizer, and BTA’s own development manager.
Don’t forget that the BTA’s First Monday Happy Hour at Velo Cult is every first Monday of the month and you can get $2.50 drafts for those with a BTA membership card (or $3.50 drafts for non-members). We’ll see you there next month!
