60,000+ Oregon students. That’s how many kids have graduated from the BTA’s 10-hour Safe Routes for Kids program- like drivers ed for 5th graders on bikes. Kids who graduate the program might know more than you do about rules of the road, right of way, safe bike handling skills, how to fit a helmet, and what the most fun bike route is to the nearest park.
Through a partnership with the City of Portland, the BTA teaches their bike and pedestrian curriculum in 40 elementary schools each year. Equally as exciting is our growing body of work training teachers across the state on how to get kids on bikes during the school day, out on neighborhood streets, and learning crucial skills for safety and independence. You can find the BTA training teachers at the statewide physical educators conference, at the National Safe Routes to School Conference, and in specific Oregon communities from Gresham to Redmond to Amity.
We love our work educating adults through Bike Commute Workshops, Legal Clinics, and the Share the Road Safety class, but we’re truly inspired by the sight of 30 10-year-olds signaling, yielding, and joyfully pedaling through their neighborhood on the community ride at the end of a 10-hour bike safety program.
When you join the BTA, you help us reach more kids across the state with our award-winning curriculum.
When you join the BTA (or refer a friend!) between July 13th- 20th, you also qualify to win a beautiful new, Oregon-made Co-Motion Bicycle.
Join now: get your chance to win, receive more than $300 of Bike Bucks good at local businesses in the mail, and smile at the pure joy of kids on bikes.
