As part of our regular Member Profile, this month we’d like to give a big ol’ shout out to all the amazing people who decided to pedal with purpose and join the Bicycle Transportation Alliance during our Membership Drive. We know the drawing for a sweet Co-Motion bicycle was a huge incentive to join and one of you lucky people will soon be pedaling it around town in all of your glory. But regardless of why you joined, you did something great, YOU JOINED the BTA!
Members are the life blood of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. Without inspiring people like you, we wouldn’t be able to do the work we do. And whats even more, over half of these awesome members are brand spankin’ new to the BTA. So to you newbies, we’d like to say WELCOME! We are excited to have your voice with us as we call for investments in better bicycling infrastructure at City Hall and Salem; as we teach the next generation of heroes on two-wheels with our education programs; and as we encourage even more people to give pedaling a try for their commute with the Bike Commute Challenge.
We’d also like to give a big digital high five to the other half of our purposeful pedalers, our tried and true veteran members, who renewed their commitment to the BTA. You have helped us reach 50,000 kids with our education program, advocate for Portland’s 300+ miles of bike lanes, and encouraged over 10,000 riders each of the past 3 years to take on the Bike Commute Challenge. We are excited to have your support as we teach even more kids, advocate for an even better network, and get 15, 20, or even 30,000 people to try riding their bike to work!
Again, a big thank you to everyone who joined or renewed during the July Membership Drive. We are so excited to have you on board and we look forward to seeing you at our Annual Member Meeting on August 14th at the Portland Art Museum where we will be pulling the winner of the Co-Motion bicycle.* All members will get a complimentary beer to enjoy as they chat with our advocates about our latest projects at our interactive stations highlighting projects from our Blueprint for World-Class Bicycling. Taco Pedaler will be there to satisfy your appetite while we acknowledge the hard work of all our volunteers with our 2014 Volunteer Awards.
*You do not need to be present to win. We will notify the winner of the Co-Motion bicycle by phone and email after the drawing. However, it will be much more exciting if you are there when you win. Plus there are delicious tacos, and free beer. I mean is there really anywhere better you could be?
